Sept. 22, 2025 - Comal ISD’s principal at Spring Branch Middle School, Sally Bratton, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) as a Region 20 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year.
“To be nominated by district colleagues is an honor and quite humbling,” says Bratton who has served as the principal at SBMS since 2022. “I’m proud of the work I’ve been a part of in Comal ISD for the last 20 years. I am thankful for the countless number of educators, including my mom who is a retired elementary and middle school teacher, who have poured so much into me, providing me lessons on how to teach and lead, and who lifted me up along the way when I needed.”
As a Region 20 winner, Bratton is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Middle School Principal of the Year. The TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the 20 regional Education Service Centers in the state. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.
Bratton has spent 30 years in education, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal and academic dean. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Texas A&M University and master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University.
“I love nurturing both kids and teachers,” says Bratton who was named the Comal ISD PTA Middle School Principal of the Year 2023-2024 and Comal ISD Fine Arts Administrator of the Year 2024-2025.
“Seeing a teacher try something new and watching a lesson or project succeed is just as rewarding as celebrating a student’s work towards mastery. Helping students and teachers believe in themselves and guiding them through some steps toward improvement has always been my joy in education.”
Each of the region winners will be recognized during the Jostens Night of the Stars Awards Dinner hosted in conjunction with the TASSP Summer Workshop in June 2026. Additionally, each will be presented with an award and recognized in a commemorative Summer Workshop yearbook.
